James began working in the precious metals industry in 1972. He worked in processing and refining until moving into the lab in 1974. He spent the next several years studying fire assay under the tutelage of the former Director of the San Francisco Mint. In 1982 he saw the need for an independent fire assay lab to provide the industry with a source of unbiased analysis for their samples and formed PME Assay Labs.
Joined PME in 1990, having worked in mining labs during the 80's. He began as an assayer, progressed to Chief Assayer, and is now the lead spectroscopist, specializing in DC Plasma.
